Pila Resort Overview

Located on a sunny plateau in Italy’s Aosta Valley, Pila sits at an elevation of 1,540m, with the highest ski lift reaching 2,700m. The ski resort is an oasis of tranquillity and offers a stunning panorama of the surrounding Alps, including Mont Blanc, Gran Paradiso and the Matterhorn. 

Purpose-built in the 1970s, Pila offers a variety of accommodation options, ranging from quaint chalets to modern hotels, and many are conveniently located close to the slopes for easy ski-in-ski-out access. The resort typically maintains a good snow record and opens from December to April. 

Skiing in Pila

Pila is a paradise for skiers of all skill levels. The resort boasts an impressive 70km of pisted terrain, accessible via an efficient lift system. From gentle blue runs for beginners to challenging black runs for advanced skiers, Pila offers a wide variety of slopes to suit everyone’s needs. 

For beginners, the Baby Gorraz and Grimod slopes offer the perfect starting point, with gentle gradients and wide open spaces. Intermediate skiers will enjoy the wide selection of red runs such as the Leisse and Nouva slopes.  

For the more advanced, Pila offers thrilling black runs such as the Couis 1 and the Wall of Pila. If you’re looking for a challenge, the Wall of Pila is one of the steepest descents in the Aosta Valley. 

Pila is also an excellent choice for freeride enthusiasts. The resort’s off-piste terrain is expansive, allowing for thrilling descents down untouched powder fields.

Is Pila Family-friendly?

Pila is an excellent ski resort for families, with a safe, car-free environment and a wide range of family-friendly activities. The resort offers a variety of ski-in, ski-out accommodation options, making it easy to get on and off the slopes. In addition to skiing, families can enjoy ice skating, snowshoeing and sledging.

Après-Ski Scene in Pila

Pila offers a cosy and relaxed après-ski scene. The resort boasts a selection of bars and pubs where you can unwind after a day on the slopes. For a lively atmosphere, head to Bar Yeti or Bar Nouva, which offer music and dancing late into the night. 

Dining in Pila

Pila offers a range of dining options to suit all tastes. La Brasserie du Grimod offers a sophisticated dining experience with a menu featuring local Aosta Valley specialities. For a more casual dining experience, try La Casa del Maffei, known for its excellent pizzas. On the mountain, Chalet Plan Praz offers a sun-soaked terrace and a hearty menu of Italian classics.

How to Get to Pila 

The quickest way to reach Pila from the UK is by flying into Turin Airport, which is approximately 1h30m away. Other nearby airports include Milan Malpensa Airport (2h) and Geneva Airport (2h30m). Those travelling by train can reach Pila via the Aosta train station, which is just 20 minutes away by car or bus.
