Sitting at 1,800m with the highest ski lift reaching 2,213m, Font Romeu is a hidden gem ski resort in the heart of the Pyrenees. The resort is perched on an expansive plateau with panoramic views over the surrounding mountains, boasting an impressive 500km of skiable terrain.

Established in the early 20th century, the charming resort town offers an array of comfortable accommodation, from inviting ski-in-ski-out chalets to luxurious hotels. Known for its sunny climate, Font Romeu typically enjoys good snowfall throughout the ski season, typically from December to April.

Skiing in Font Romeu

Font Romeu offers a wealth of skiing opportunities for all levels. There are two lift pass options: the Font Romeu only ski pass, which grants access to 58km of pistes via 23 lifts, and the Neiges Catalanes ski pass, which allows skiers to explore a staggering 500km of pisted terrain across the Catalan Pyrenees.

For beginners, there are numerous gentle slopes to build confidence on, including the Pla de Mir and Gallinera. Intermediate skiers can explore the vast range of blue and red runs, with the Col del Pam and Estadi among the local favourites.

Advanced skiers will find a plethora of challenging runs and off-piste skiing opportunities. The Roc de la Calme area is a must-visit, boasting steep, exhilarating black runs. For freestyle enthusiasts, the resort features two snowparks, complete with jumps, rails and boxes for all abilities.

Font Romeu is an ideal ski resort for families, with a warm, welcoming atmosphere and plenty of family-friendly facilities. The pedestrianised centre is safe and easy to navigate, and the ski-in-ski-out accommodation options make getting on and off the slopes a breeze. The resort offers a range of family lift pass deals and discounts for children under 12.

Font Romeu boasts a charming après-ski scene, with its lively centre home to numerous bars, restaurants and cafes. La Calèche is a popular spot, known for its live music and cosy ambience. For a more upbeat atmosphere, Le Grand Café offers a blend of delicious cocktails and energetic music into the early hours.

Font Romeu has a variety of excellent dining options. In the resort, Le Chalet des Airelles offers a gourmet menu filled with local delicacies, while La Chaumière serves hearty mountain dishes in a rustic setting. How to Get to Font Romeu

From the UK, the quickest way to reach Font Romeu is by flying into Perpignan Airport, which is a 1h40m drive from the resort. Other nearby airports include Carcassonne Airport (2h20m) and Toulouse Airport (2h35m). If you prefer to travel by train, the closest station is at Latour-de-Carol, just a 20-minute drive from the resort.
