Flachau Resort Overview

Located in Austria’s Salzburg region, the charming resort of Flachau sits at 920m with the highest ski lift reaching 1,980m. The resort is part of the Ski Amade ski area, one of the largest ski areas in Europe, boasting 760km of skiable terrain.

Flachau offers an array of accommodation choices, from luxury hotels to cosy guesthouses and self-catering apartments, many of which are conveniently located close to the ski lifts. Thanks to its high-altitude location, the resort enjoys reliable snowfall throughout the ski season, which typically runs from early December to mid-April.

Skiing in Flachau

Flachau is a haven for skiers of all levels. The resort offers 120km of beautifully groomed, pisted terrain, served by 44 modern ski lifts. The wide, gentle slopes are perfect for beginners, while the more challenging red and black runs offer excitement for advanced skiers.

Beginners can enjoy the gentle slopes of Geierberg and Grießenkar, while the red slopes of the Star Jet and Achter Jet areas are perfect for intermediate skiers. Advanced skiers can test their skills on the black runs of Hermann Maier World Cup run.

Flachau also offers an impressive snowpark, the Absolut Park, which is one of the largest terrain parks in Europe. It features a variety of obstacles for freestyle skiers and snowboarders of all abilities.

Is Flachau Family-friendly?

Flachau is an excellent ski resort for families. The resort has a safe, pedestrian-friendly centre and offers a range of family-friendly amenities, including child-friendly restaurants and a toboggan run. With a variety of ski-in-ski-out accommodation and lift discounts for children under the age of 16, it’s a great choice for a family ski holiday.

Flachau boasts a vibrant après-ski scene with a variety of lively bars and pubs where you can unwind after a day on the slopes. Among the popular spots are Dampfkessel and Hofstadl, both known for their fun atmosphere and live music.

For late-night entertainment, Ema’s Pub offers a mix of music and a great selection of drinks. If you’re looking for something more relaxed, the Fire & Ice cocktail bar at the Hotel Pongauerhof is a fantastic choice.

Flachau offers a diverse dining scene with options to suit all tastes. In the resort, Lisa Alm offers gourmet Austrian cuisine, while Schusterhäusl serves traditional dishes in a cosy, rustic setting. How to Get to Flachau

The quickest way to get to Flachau from the UK is to fly to Salzburg Airport, which is an hour’s drive from the resort. Other nearby airports include Munich Airport (2h30m) and Innsbruck Airport (2h). If you’re travelling by train, the nearest station is Radstadt (15m transfer). If you choose to drive to Flachau, there are plenty of parking options available in and around the resort.
