Last week we caught up with Patsy Duncan, previously a British Ski Team racer, BASI trainer and part of the BASI demo team for 10 years. Hear her thoughts on being an independent ski instructor and her first season using Maison Sport.

MS: How long have you been a ski instructor?

PD: 43 years!

MS: Where is your preferred ski resort to teach in?

PD: The 3 Vallees

MS: When did you decide to go independent?

PD: 2003

MS: What is the best thing about working for yourself?

PD: I am in total control of the choices I make, the hours I work and the earnings from my efforts are far better.

MS: How has the industry changed over the past 15 years?

PD: There are many more independents interested in being their own boss. Snow conditions have changed massively which is a worry. Also there are more private instructors than 5/10 years ago, some independent instructors are not getting as much work as in previous years.

MS: Did Maison Sport help you in anyway last winter?

PD: Yes, Maison Sport did fill in some work for me when things were quiet.

MS: What did you like most about using the platform?

PD: It’s easy to use and communicate with your clients over arrangements

MS: Will you continue using Maison Sport?

PD: Yes

Being independent is great if you bring in enough work, this is why Maison Sport is a game changer for independents and also those wanting to go independent. Our goal this winter is for newly independent ski instructors listed on Maison Sport to earn more than €25,000 in just their first season, and more than €35,000 the following winter.
