Resort improvements in Austria…

Zell am See, Austria – The new lift connecting Zell am See to Saalbach will not just reduce your time spent travelling in the air; but will also more than double the ski area from 140km to 400km+, this is because Zell am See/Kaprun skiers now also get access to Saalbach included in their lift pass.

Top tip: Zell am See offers the opportunity for a Christmas eve like no other. Stroll around the gorgeous stalls in the Star-Advent markets, and browse local offerings of roasted nuts and homemade toys, before watching a choir performance of Christmas songs. Then embark upon a starlight cruise on Lake Zell, taking in the snowy views with a glass of mulled wine.

Kitzbuhel, Austria – Spending €27.5 million to replace the 35 year old Fleckalmbahn, the Kitzbuhel team have spared no expense on the new lift from Kirchberg. The 10 gondola lift comes equipped with heated seats and a speed of 7m/sec, so you can travel with quickly and in style on your way up Ehrenbackhohe.

Top tip: Daredevils and ski race fanatics will be fascinated by Kitzbuhel’s famous Hahnenkamm, known as one of the scariest stops on the ski World Cup circuit. Visit the resort in Janurary to witness the heart-stopping race, or come off-peak and try your luck on the ‘Mausefalle’ with its 85 degree tilt.

Ischgl, Austria – Ischgl have also jumped on the upgrade bandwagon, investing €24 million this year, even bringing the first 8 seat D-Line facility to Switzerland. The new 6 and 8 seat lifts can carry 2,400 and 3,500 people per hour respectively, with both boasting heated seats and comfort improvements.

Top tip: Join in with one of the largest mountainside parties at Ischgl’s famous start and end of season ‘Top of the Mountain’ concerts. Having previously featured top celebrities such as Tina Turner, Elton John, Mariah Carey, Bob Dylan, the Beach Boys and Kylie Minogue, this is an event you really don’t want to miss.
