Bardonecchia Resort Overview

Located in the heart of the Italian Alps, Bardonecchia sits at an altitude of 1,312m, with the highest ski lift reaching 2,800m. The resort is situated in the Piedmont region, close to the French border, and offers access to an impressive 100km of skiable terrain.

Established as a ski resort in the early 20th century, Bardonecchia is a traditional Italian village with a welcoming atmosphere. The resort offers a variety of accommodation options, from cosy chalets to high-end hotels and self-catered apartments, many boasting ski-in-ski-out convenience. The resort maintains a good snow record and is typically open for skiing from early December to mid-April.

Skiing in Bardonecchia

Bardonecchia offers an excellent skiing experience for all levels of skiers. The resort is split into three ski areas; Colomion-Les Arnauds, Melezet and Jafferau, which collectively offer 100km of pisted terrain to explore.

Beginners can perfect their technique on the gentle slopes of Campo Smith, while the wide, blue runs in the Melezet and Jafferau areas offer the ideal terrain for intermediate skiers. The resort also boasts a number of challenging black runs, such as the Olympic course, which is sure to test advanced skiers.

Freestyle skiers and snowboarders are well-catered for in Bardonecchia with an impressive snowpark, which features various kickers, rails and a half-pipe. The resort played host to the snowboarding events in the 2006 Turin Winter Olympics, cementing its reputation as a freestyle hotspot.

Is Bardonecchia Family-friendly?

Bardonecchia is a great ski resort for families, offering a relaxed atmosphere and a range of family-friendly accommodation options. The resort’s pedestrianised centre is safe and easy to navigate, and there are plenty of activities for children, including a natural ice rink, a cinema and a sports centre. Discounted lift passes are available for children and there are many ski schools offering group and private lessons.

Bardonecchia offers a laid-back après-ski scene with a selection of bars and cafes where you can relax and unwind after a day on the slopes. For a lively atmosphere, head to Bar del Sole or Bar Miretti, which often have live music. For a quieter evening, try one of the resort’s wine bars, such as Enoteca Borgo Vecchio or Cantine San Pietro.

Bardonecchia is home to a variety of restaurants offering everything from traditional Italian cuisine to international dishes. How to Get to Bardonecchia

The quickest way to reach Bardonecchia from the UK is to fly into Turin Airport, which is just an hour and a half by car from the resort. Other nearby airports include Chambery Airport (2h15m), Grenoble Airport (2h) and Lyon St-Exupéry Airport (2h30m). If you prefer to travel by train, Bardonecchia has its own train station, making it easily accessible from major European cities.
