St Ulrich / Ortisei Resort Overview

Located in the heart of the Dolomites, St Ulrich or Ortisei as it’s known locally, sits at an altitude of 1,236m with the highest ski lift reaching up to 2,518m. This charming resort is a part of the vast Dolomiti Superski area, offering an impressive 1,200km of skiable terrain. 

The resort is beautifully traditional, with its pedestrianised centre boasting stunning carved wooden buildings and a fairytale-like atmosphere. St Ulrich offers a range of accommodation from cosy, family-run guesthouses to luxurious 5-star hotels, all within a stone’s throw of the slopes. The ski season typically runs from late November to early April, ensuring a good snow cover throughout the season.

Skiing in St Ulrich / Ortisei

St Ulrich is a paradise for skiers and snowboarders of all levels. The resort is part of the Dolomiti Superski pass, providing access to an impressive 1,200km of pisted terrain across 12 ski areas. Within St Ulrich itself, there is a generous 175km of pistes to explore.

Beginners will appreciate the wide, gentle slopes around the Seceda area while intermediates can challenge themselves on the variety of red runs that make up the majority of the resort. Advanced skiers and snowboarders can enjoy the adrenaline rush of the black runs at Ciampinoi.

St Ulrich also offers excellent opportunities for off-piste skiing, particularly in the areas around Seceda and Alpe di Siusi.

St Ulrich is an ideal ski resort for families. Its pedestrianised centre ensures a safe environment for children and the range of family-friendly accommodation is extensive. The resort offers a variety of activities for non-skiers too, including tobogganing, ice-skating and horse-drawn sleigh rides. 

Après-Ski Scene in St Ulrich / Ortisei

St Ulrich offers a more laid-back après ski scene compared to some larger resorts. However, there are plenty of cosy bars, cafes and restaurants where you can unwind after a day on the slopes. Siglu Bar is a popular choice for its cosy atmosphere and a wide selection of drinks. For a more upbeat evening, check out Yello’s Music Bar, known for its live music and DJ sets.

St Ulrich provides a wide range of dining options, from traditional Tyrolean cuisine to international dishes. For a fine dining experience, head to Anna Stuben, which boasts a Michelin star. For something a little different, the mountain hut Baita Daniel offers a unique dining experience with stunning panoramic views.

How to Get to St Ulrich / Ortisei

The quickest way to get to St Ulrich from the UK is to fly. The closest airports are Bolzano (40km away), Innsbruck (120km) and Verona (190km). From these airports, you can take a shuttle bus, taxi or hire a car to reach the resort. If you are travelling by train, the closest station is Bressanone / Brixen, from where regular bus services operate to the resort.
